Index, futures and commodity figures are the 08:00:00 ET one-minute bar. Single-name pre-market moves carry their own timestamps and are labelled.

Dow Futures Lead as Crude Slides Below $82 on OPEC and IEA Demand Cuts; Cisco and Cerebras Sink Before PPI

Market Context: Wall Street opens after Wednesday's CPI-driven rebound. Futures are modestly higher at 8:00 with the Dow leading and the Nasdaq-100 essentially flat — the mirror image of yesterday. Crude has fallen over 2% after OPEC and the IEA both cut 2026 demand forecasts, which is doing more for the inflation outlook than the CPI print itself. September hike odds have collapsed to 40.1% from 54.4% a week ago. July PPI and jobless claims land at 8:30 ET.

The rotation has flipped. Wednesday the NQ led by 0.75% while the Dow was flat; this morning the Dow leads at +0.26% and the NQ is up 0.01%. Semiconductor earnings disappointments are the proximate cause.

CRWV$107.73$105.95−$1.78 (−1.65%)

The board is mean-reverting: Wednesday's three loudest winners are cooling (CRWV −1.65%, MU −0.20%, NBIS-adjacent names mixed) while Wednesday's platform losers have stabilised in the green (META +0.36%, MSFT +0.22%, GOOGL +0.42%). SMCI is the exception, extending +1.52%. Nothing on the core board moves more than 1.7% — the violence this morning is confined to the earnings casualties below.

Pre-Market Movers

The three earnings casualties now carry true 08:00:00 bars; the remainder keep their source timestamps.

COHR — $330.66 at 8:00, −7.02% against Wednesday's $355.64 close. Coherent fell on margin compression and profit-taking after overnight earnings, having closed Wednesday up 8.24%. The 8:00 print is worse than the "−6%" circulating in early coverage.

CSCO — $116.80 at 8:00, −5.72% against Wednesday's $123.88. Cisco's quarterly results failed to impress despite solid headlines. The 8:00 print is better than the "−7%" in early coverage — the stock had already recovered part of the initial drop.

CBRS — $222.30 at 8:00, −15.17% against Wednesday's now-verified close of $262.06. Cerebras missed Wall Street expectations after rallying 11.6% on Wednesday's AI-infrastructure surge — the round trip gives back the entire Wednesday gain and more. The "plummeting 15%" in early coverage matches the 8:00 print almost exactly.

BIRK — up 11.3% after better-than-expected Q3 results.

AMBP — up 11.24% after disclosing that controlling shareholder Ardagh Holdings has instructed advisers to prepare for a potential sale.

MAGS — the equal-weight Magnificent Seven ETF was up 0.23% at $67.90, indicating no strong directional bias across the megacaps.

AMAT reports after the close today.

Correction to circulating figures: SpaceX closed Wednesday at $146.15, +9.65% — not $148.44 or "+11%." Those numbers are the intraday high and a 3:02 p.m. reading respectively. All three feeds agree on $146.15.

Today's Catalysts

July PPI, 8:30 AM ET, alongside weekly jobless claims. Consensus is +0.2% m/m on headline final demand per the Dow Jones survey, with core PPI expected at +0.3% m/m, up from 0.2% in June. Final demand prices fell 0.1% in June and rose 0.5% in May; on an unadjusted basis the final-demand index is +4.7% for the twelve months through July. PPI components feed directly into PCE estimates, so the read-through matters beyond the headline.

Retail sales follow Friday.

Rates

September hike odds have fallen to 40% from 51% on Tuesday — Barchart's close report puts the move at 40% from 51% day-over-day, and CME FedWatch data cited by Benzinga shows 40.1% against 54.4% a week earlier. Two sources, same level, different baselines — both a decisive move away from the coin-flip that framed Tuesday and Wednesday. The 10-year note future is bid at 108.67, up 0.12%, meaning yields easing further.

Two data points did the work: in-line July CPI (headline +0.1% m/m and 3.4% y/y, core +0.2% and 2.5%) and crude's decline. July payrolls at −23,000 remain the labour anchor.

Geopolitics and Commodities

Crude's fall has two legs, not one. The first is demand: OPEC again cut its 2026 global oil demand growth forecast, and the IEA also expects elevated prices and Middle East uncertainty to weigh on demand. The second arrived overnight and is diplomatic: Turkey's Anadolu agency, citing Pakistani government sources, reported that the U.S. and Iran had agreed to extend a 60-day ceasefire. Iran pushed back within hours — a senior Iranian government source told Reuters there has been "absolutely no progress" on the U.S. returning to the June interim agreement, said an extension is not under discussion because Washington abandoned that agreement within days of signing it, and Foreign Minister Araghchi publicly disputed Trump's repeated claims of total control over the strait.

The market is trading the report, not the denial: WTI at $81.57 and Brent at $87.47 are the week's lows even though confirmed strait traffic sits near three-month lows. Brent touched $90 as recently as Wednesday morning. The overnight sequence — deal report, immediate denial — repeats the pattern that has defined this entire cycle, and any single headline should be priced accordingly.

Gold eased to $4,443.60 at 8:00, with TradingKey reporting a further pullback toward $4,390 later in the pre-market.

United Kingdom. The Bank of England held Bank Rate at 3.75% on 30 July in a 6–3 vote. Softer crude eases imported-inflation pressure.

Poland. The record run has paused: after Wednesday's third consecutive record close at 4,065.12, WIG20 was down 1.02% at 4,023.66 by 8:00 ET, with WIG at 152,735.38 (−0.79%). Orlen tracks the crude complex, which is down over 2% — the transmission that lifted the index on the way up works identically in reverse.

Outlook

Futures point to a modestly higher open with leadership rotating out of the Nasdaq and into the Dow. The AI-hardware trade that drove Wednesday is being tested this morning: Cerebras down 15%, Cisco down 7%, Coherent down 6% — all after earnings, all in the same complex that rallied yesterday on CoreWeave, Super Micro and Nebius.

The genuinely constructive development is crude. Two demand-forecast cuts from OPEC and the IEA — reinforced overnight by a reported, and immediately disputed, ceasefire extension — remove the inflation channel that kept September in play, and the rates market has responded: 40.1% is a materially different setup from the 50/50 of two days ago. PPI at 8:30 is the test of whether that repricing holds.

  • Primary price feed. Index futures, commodities, the 10-year note future, Bitcoin, and the CSCO/COHR/CBRS bars are 08:00:00 ET one-minute prints from Yahoo Finance extended-hours data.
  • A data-quality trap, documented. During Thursday's pre-market, Yahoo's chartPreviousClose field for equities pointed to Tuesday's close, two sessions back, while the minute bars were Thursday's — proven on COHR, where the field returned 328.57 against a triple-verified Wednesday close of 355.64 (and 328.57 × 1.0824 = 355.64 exactly). Any percentage computed from that field this morning would be silently wrong. All equity percentages above are therefore measured against Wednesday closes verified yesterday across Yahoo, The Motley Fool and Barchart. Futures were unaffected — their contracts roll continuously and the field held Wednesday's settle.
  • Wednesday's closes were verified across three independent feeds: Yahoo Finance daily bars, The Motley Fool ("Data as of Aug 12, 2026") and Barchart. All three agreed to the cent on every overlapping name, including SPCX at $146.15.

Editorial Note — Thursday premarket, 8:00 AM ET

This edition is anchored at the 08:00:00 ET one-minute bar for indices, futures and commodities. Single-name pre-market moves are not 8:00 bars, so those figures carry their source timestamps and are labelled as approximate. That distinction is stated rather than blended.

PPI is carried as due-with-consensus, not as a result. The release lands 30 minutes after this cutoff and is outside the edition.

Wednesday's verified closes form the base. Where a futures contract and its cash index differ, both are shown and the percentage is measured against the contract's own settle.

Data boundary: 08:00:00 ET, Thursday 13 August 2026. The PPI release, jobless claims and everything after the 9:30 open are outside this edition.
